Kia ora, I'm Renee.
I'm a Māori designer and researcher that's grounded in her culture and her craft.
Curious by nature and a bit of a tūtū. I move between fields — designer, researcher, weaver, carver, product designer, performer, vibe coder and novice photographer.
Now based in my haukainga of Taranaki, I’m deepening my connection to whenua, whānau and hāpori.
My design journey
I started in industrial design, thinking through materials and form, but I was equally drawn to the people behind the product.
A Master’s in UX Design deepened my research practice and sharpened my awareness of the gaps within mainstream design — particularly where Indigenous knowledge and relational ways of working were absent.
That realisation shifted my practice. Shaped my process and influenced my freelance journey.
